The Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde has called on the Federal Government to reverse the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria. He cited that the social media platform creates job for so many young Nigerians.
This has forced Gov. Makinde to call on the FG to think about it’s decision to suspend the use of Twitter.
He said this via a statement;
“As leaders, we should go beyond emotional reactions to issues and think about how our actions will affect the people we lead. Also, our international ratings socially and economically.”
Gov. Makinde also said Twitter could become a useful platform that help to improve governance. He further went on so say that the platforms helps young Nigerians exercise their fundamental rights.
“Twitter has become the platform for young people and indeed all Nigerians to exercise their fundamental right to express and publish an opinion. They use the platform to complain, argue and give feedback to government and its agencies who in turn, use these to improve policies.”
Gov. Seyi Makinde also stressed the digital importance of Twitter and how this ban could affect investors.
He added: “Nigerian youths and digital communications. Organisations earn a living from being able to use the platform to post communications on behalf of their clients. Others who may not have physical stores also rely on Twitter to give visibility to their products and services.
Nigeria’s population boost of young and vibrant people who are ready to offer their skills. The suspension of Twitter will limit their use of a medium that gives access to many businesses.
