The igbos in delta state formally called; Midwest Igbos, Bendel Igbos e.t.c,are subgrous of igbo that occupies 9 L.G.A of delta state, and are the 2nd largest group in population after the urhobos.
They include;
ỊKA subgroup : The ịka people occupy 2(ịka south, ịka north-east)LGA of delta north senatorial zone. They’re also ika groups found in edo state that occupy 2 wards(igbanke east and west) of orhiomwon LGA, they’re also present in uhumwonde, and igueben LGA.
Ịka towns include; Agbọr, Abavo, ịgbanke, Ụmụnede, igbodo, Ọwa-ọyibu e.t.c
Ika people speak the ika dialect of igbo language , which is known for the addition of ‘n’ suffix in their word.
E.g; Ikechukwu – Ikenchukwu
Ọkụ – Ọkụn(igbanke)
Ụtụtụ – Ọtụntụn(igbanke)
Eke – Eken
ENUANỊ: The Enuanị people occupy the two anịọcha/oshimili LGA of delta state. Also to note that the onitsha(ọnịcha) people are also part of enuanị people, together with the ika people they were under the asaba division of the benin province.
Enuanụ towns include; Asaba, Ọgwashị-ukwu, ibusa(igbuzọ), issele-ukwu, ọnịcha, ịlla e.t.c.
ỤKWỤANỊ: The ụkwụanị people occupy the lower 3 LGA ( ụkwụanị, ndọkwa east, ndọkwa west) of delta north district.
The ndọnị people of rivers state are also ukwuani people added to rivers state during state creation.
Ụkwụanị towns includes; Abọh, Ụtagba-ogbe(kwale), Ọbịaruku, Ndọnị, Ashaka, Ọnịcha-ụkwụanị, Asaba-ase, Ụtagba-ụnọ e.t.c
They speak the Aboh-Ukwuani-Ndoni dialect of igbo language.
Also good to note that they were once under the Aboh division of the Warri province.
All together, Anịọma Land measures about approximately 6,300sqkm in area and approximately 1.8 million in population.
