Details have emerged as to why the Northern political establishment has taken up arms against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the planned relocation to Lagos of some offices of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Several sources familiar with the thinking of the Northern establishment confirmed that the fear of potential further relocations of government headquarters from Abuja, the capital, if the current relocation is not opposed, has informed the uproar.
There are also suspicions of a “Lagos cabal” within the government that is not happy with the relocation of the Federal Capital to Abuja, and some politicians are reportedly opposed to the relocation due to personal interests.
Concerns have also been raised about the potential redundancy of junior-level workers who were employed following the relocation of FAAN’s headquarters.
