At least six individuals were reportedly hurt in a fierce altercation between Dakumi and Gbage communities, Ebbo Gbachinku Ward in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.
It was reported that two individuals involved in the brawl are currently receiving medical attention at an unknown facility.
Daily Post quoted local sources to have revealed that the attackers utilized knives, firearms, rocks, and other lethal objects to harm the victims.
The residents have called upon the state governor, Mohammed Umar Bago and the Niger State Police Commissioner, CP Ebenezer Shawulu Danmamman, along with other relevant officials, to step in swiftly before the situation worsens.
It was also gathered that the head of Ebbo Gbachinku visited the two communities and their leaders to figure out the root cause of the conflict and report back to the Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago 111.
A lawsuit related to the land dispute is currently pending in Minna High Court.
Acknowledging the situation, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna, stated that the incident is currently being investigated, and measures are being taken to apprehend the culprits.
He also mentioned that a fight broke out between Katakpa and Elegi villages of Lapai Local Government Area over an ongoing land dispute, resulting in four injuries, with the victims being transported to Gulu General Hospital for medical care.
He further disclosed that two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the incident.
