Sunday Igboho was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic. The Yoruba activist was said to be on his way to Germany before he was intercepted.

Igboho was nabbed together with his wife. He was said to be carrying the country’s passport.

Igboho was reportedly arrested on his way to Germany through Cotonou.

According to sources gathered by Vanguard, one of them disclosed this;

“He was supposed to travel to Germany through Cotonou this night. Igboho wanted to leave Africa through Cotonou. He was arrested by security operatives in Cotonou.

“They are planning to bring him back to Nigeria.”

However, they are also claims that Igboho was arrested by the immigration service for travel violation.

Sunday Igboho is expected to be extradicted to Nigeria. Yoruba leaders are strongly trying to resist the extradition. However, calls to the Chief Justice have been abortive.

His lawyer, Yomi Alliyu, SAN, has confirmed that he has not spoken to Igboho since reports of the activist’s arrest.

He said. “I have not had contact with my client since the news of his arrest in Benin Republic.”

Alliyu has urged the Beninoise government to abort plans to extradict Sunday Igboho

A statement released by the lawyer read.

“Again, another wife of our client, Mrs Ropo Adeyemo, a German citizen, has been arrested together with her husband in Cotonou. What offence has she committed to warrant this?

“The INTERPOL and Benin Republic should be aware of the act of savagery committed in his client’s house in the wee hours of 1st July 2021, between 1.00 am and 3.00 am; shooting their way through and killing two people in the process and maliciously damaging his properties in the course of that illegal invasion.
