Tinubu kicks as Labour Party defeat incumbent Prime Minister to win UK election in a landslide

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reacted to the landslide victory won by the Labour Party in the UK parliamentary elections.

Tinubu congratulated Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, following the party’s victory in the United Kingdom general election.

Starmer emerged as the winner of the election and is set to become the next Prime Minister. The Labour Party secured the required 326 parliamentary seats to be declared the official winner.

Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak accepted responsibility for the Conservative Party’s defeat and subsequently resigned, submitting his resignation letter to the King.

In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu praised Starmer for his determination and courage throughout his tenure in opposition and as the leader of the Labour Party. Tinubu highlighted the party’s successful reform, mobilization, and strategic positioning for victory after 14 years as a testament to Starmer’s leadership qualities.

The President also extended his congratulations to the citizens and government of the United Kingdom, lauding the Kingdom as a steadfast model of democracy and a long-standing partner of Nigeria.

“The President looks forward to deepening relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom in areas of mutual interest, strengthening democratic institutions, and building a safer and more prosperous future for the people of both countries,” the statement concluded.
