Tragedy Strikes As Suspected Cultists Kill Young Man In Anambra

Suspected cultists struck again in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Friday afternoon, killing a young man identified as Nonso near Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, popularly known as Amaku.

The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, marks another cult-related tragedy in Awka, where recent violence has left numerous families in grief.

Nonso, reportedly the last remaining son in his family, is the third brother to fall victim to suspected cult attacks.

His younger brother, Buchi, was similarly murdered three months ago near MacDon Eatery, while their eldest brother had also met a brutal end in an earlier incident.

This latest killing has left their mother without a surviving child, amplifying the community’s outcry over the escalating violence.

Awka has become a hotbed for cult violence, with recent reports indicating 16 individuals were killed in Nibo, while another seven lost their lives in the Ifite Awka area. Despite assurances from law enforcement, the wave of bloodshed continues to plague the area.

In response to Friday’s incident, Anambra State Police Commissioner Nnaghe Obono Itam condemned the act, vowing a thorough investigation.

“We will leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice,” he assured.

The Ezinano Awka Community, led by Ozo Jeff Nweke, has announced a N10 million bounty for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the recent massacre in Nibo.

The community further warned cultists to avoid Awka and its surroundings, underscoring their resolve to end the violence that has tormented their region.
