After the Nigerian government suspended Twitter operations in Nigeria, Nigerians agreed to the use of a virtual private network (VPN) to continue using the Weibo platform.
On Friday, the Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohamed announced the suspension in a statement on the grounds that “continuous use of the platform for activities that may undermine the survival of Nigerian businesses.”
Soon after the federal government announced the suspension of Twitter, virtual private networks (VPNs) began to dominate discussions on social media platforms.
From the basic explanation of what VPN is, using it will help hide your internet protocol (IP) address — the unique number that identifies you and your location in the world.
One of the benefits of using VPN is that you can change your IP address. This means that with a new IP address which can be an IP address in any country or region of your choice, you can use Twitter as in the country or region of your choice without restrictions.
To do this, all that is needed is to change the location of the VPN to any country of your choice and connect to that country’s VPN.
Well, if you do not have a free VPN as not all VPN are free to use and also leaving the VPN app running in your phone may quickly drain your your phone battery, here is another way to access Twitter in Nigeria.
Steps to set up your Twitter App:
- Open your Twitter App
- Click on the Options button and go to Settings and Privacy
- Tick Enable HTTP Proxy
- Enter the Proxy Host: 22.214.171.124
- Enter the Port: 8080
That is all, close your Twitter App and open it again to gain access from Nigeria without a VPN.
