Update: 49 Kιlled in Fresh Plateau State Attacks

Tragedy struck again in Plateau State as at least 49 people lost their lives following fresh assaults on the communities of Zike and Kimakpa in Kwall District, Bassa Local Government Area.

The attacks, which occurred under the Iregwe Chieftaincy domain, also left several others wounded, with victims receiving treatment at Bingham University Teaching Hospital and Jos University Teaching Hospital.

According to reports from the area, these recent assaults occurred just days after other isolated killings were reported across parts of Bassa LGA, raising further concerns about the escalating violence.

Confirming the incident, Samuel Jugo, spokesperson for the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), said the assault took place on the night of Sunday, April 13, 2025. He stated: “According to witnesses, sporadic gunshots were heard from multiple locations and by Monday morning, 49 corpses had been recovered. This is aside from the number of persons injured which has not been ascertained yet.”

Reacting to the development, the Plateau State Government expressed deep concern over what it termed an unprovoked attack.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Ramnap, told Daily Trust via phone that, “The attack is one too many and these series of attacks pose an existential threat to the lives and livelihoods of the peace-loving people of the state.”

She added, “It is sad that in less than two weeks after our people were k!lled in Bokkos local government, this sad incident is reoccurring in another community in Bassa local government.”
