This formation is believed to date back to the Jurassic period, and its unique profile makes it one of only five such inselbergs in the entire world with comparable structure and elevation.
Ecological Importance
Beyond its geological prominence, Wase Rock serves as a seasonal nesting ground for migratory birds, particularly rosy pelicans. It’s one of the few locations in West Africa where these birds gather in such large numbers, making it an important site for ornithologists and wildlife enthusiasts.
