As President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term in office moves closer to an end, several political stakeholders and various group leaders have been expressing their move towards the presidential election in 2023. The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, has said that they would no longer allow business in 2023 as they the northerners have learnt their lessons at all cost.
According to Ango Abdullahi, the chairman of NEF and former vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, in electing political leaders in 2023, Northerners will not vote base on ethnicity. Abdullahi who said this during the opening of the Northern People’s Summit at the Arewa House Kaduna on Wednesday explained that the candidate that would be voted for must have a socio-economic development plan towards the northerners regardless of religion and tribe.
Professor Abdullahi further said that waiting for Presidency or the legislature on serious issues that represent genuine improvements in governance is unacceptable. “We can vastly improve our mobilization of economic resources, reduce inefficiencies and waste and improve effective governance if we take the issues of restructuring more seriously.” he added.
