Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church, one of the largest churches in Nigeria, shared an essential principle for churches seeking to attract large crowds to their Sunday services during his sermon at the Covenant Hour of Prayer meeting.
According to him, providing solutions to the challenges people face is key to drawing multitudes. He illustrated this with a story about his grandmother, who kept livestock. Her dedication to feeding her animals would attract other animals from the surrounding area, and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t chase these animals away.
“Wherever the answer is, you cannot resist people. They will flow in,” he said.
He explained that Jesus Christ also offered solutions during his ministry on the earth, when he called on all those who were labouring and were heavy laden to receive rest from him. The man of God stated that Jesus came to offer the solution to the myriad of problems we are faced with.
Bishop Oyedepo also emphasized that offering solutions does not mean the church will be free from opposition or criticism. However, such resistance will not deter people from seeking solutions where they know they exist.
“That does not mean there will not be people who will say ‘What’s going on? There’s nothing there.’ There will be, but that will not stop the multitudes from following where the answer is,” he explained. “I want an answer, and you’re talking about arguments. I want a solution, and I see the solution there. I’m going for it.
“I am blind and I want to see and you’re saying ‘Why are you going there?’ I want to see. And he came and he saw. The next time he’ll say ‘I’m going. What of you?'” he said.
