When The British Were Leaving Nigeria They Buried 2 Evils Which We Haven’t Gotten Rid Of – Bode George

In a recent video shared by TVC, Bode George, a former military governor of Ondo State, spoke about two major challenges Nigeria has faced since gaining independence from British colonial rule.

George said the British left behind tribalism and religious bigotry in Nigeria which has continued to cause problems in the country. He said no one chooses their ethnicity or religion before they are born, yet these factors often lead to discrimination and conflict. He questioned why people would treat others differently based on things they had no control over. He also urged Nigerians to treat each other with kindness and fairness, pointing out that everyone is human and deserving of respect, regardless of their background.

In George’s words: “When they were leaving Nigeria, they buried two evils in Nigeria and we have not been able to get rid of those two evils. The first one is tribalism, the second one is religious bigotry. What has those two got to do with your interaction as Nigerians? Is there any human being who before being born asked God, ‘Baba I would like to be Hausa man, I would like to be Yoruba man or I would like to be Igbo man?’ You came out just like any other human being. Are there Nigerians with two heads or 4 feet? No. Do to others as you wish they do to you”.
