Why I Returned $10,000 Found On Plane – Dankode

The Kano-born Auwal Ahmad Dankode, who returned a lost $10,000 to the rightful owner at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, has disclosed why he did not run away with the money.

He attributed his action to good home training.

Naturenex reports that Dankode discovered the hard currency on Wednesday on an Egypt Airline plane while cleaning the cabin.

A junior staff of Nigeria Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, Dankode stated that he had given the $10,000, about ₦16 million, to the manager of the airline company before the rightful owner was called.

Dankobe said, “I was conducting a routine cleaning of the aircraft that had just landed when I saw the money in an envelope. So, I picked the envelope and reported it to the airline company’s manager long before the rightful owner came.

“The man was asked several questions which he answered positively and the money was later released to him. Many people at the airport carried me shoulder high praising me for the good deed.”

Expressing how he felt after giving such a huge amount back to its owner, he told the Guardian that the biggest joy he had was when he was lifted shoulder-high by other staff.

He said he was happy that God used him to make another person happy. He added that the home training he got was never to take what did not belong to him.

Honestly I feel very elated and excited that I found it difficult to even go to bed right now because I am so happy that God used me to make somebody happy.

“I don’t take what does not belong to me. The money belongs to the rightful owner is nothing to me because that was the training we got from home.

“At the same time I am happy when I know the value and the owner who does not understand Hausa as he spoke Arabic was so happy and hugged me many times“, Dankode added.
