Why I Stopped Condemning Nigerian Government – Falz

The Nigerian rapper Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, has explained why he quit condemning the federal government.

Falz is renowned for penning songs that speak to social injustices and poor leadership.

Among the songs are “Wehdone Sir,” “Child of the World,” “Talk,” and “Mr. Yakubu.”

In October 2020, he participated actively in the #EndSARS demonstration against police brutality.

At a private listening session for “Before The Feast,” his most recent extended play (EP), Falz did, however, admit to having ceased criticising the government because he did not want to be perceived as the one who brings grievances to the public’s attention.

“You will definitely see that guy. But I do not want that guy to get to a point where he is seen as ‘you guys just dey complain’. I do not want to ever get to that point. That is why I am taking a pause on just complaining. I want to rearrange how I am doing it,” he said.

“So how am I doing it? Am I doing it in a way that is just making everybody feel sad? We are already know that we are in wàhálà. Why am I further soaking you in that emotion? I want to bring you out of that emotion in someway and that is what I am trying to do.”

Falz also said what differentiate his latest project from his previous body of works is the fact he did not “comment on the happenings in Nigeria”.

“What’s differentiate this project from my other works. Maybe this is the project or there is no atom, no iota of attack or commentary as regards the happenings,” he said.

“Like I said, because of the theme, because of the direction, you know ofcourse that would have been out of place. I do not think there is, even lyrics-wise not even a brief mention I can see of right now. That is definitely what differentiates this project from the rest.”

Falz released ‘Before The Feast’, a six-track project in the early of Friday. He had put out ‘Ndi Ike‘ featuring Flavour and Odumodublvck off the EP.

The rapper started to make a name in the Nigerian music space in 2009.

Falz has also had an impressive music career which has seen him won several awards including ‘Album of the Year’ at the 2016 edition of the City People Entertainment.

Asides from being a rapper, Falz has also featured in several movies.

He made his movie debut in ‘Couple of Days’ (2016).
