Senior aides to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State have resigned ahead of the November 6th election, even as additional supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chukwuma Umeoji, have reportedly pledged their support.
Mr. Chika Ekwenugo, the governor’s senior special assistant on legal matters, and his colleague in Works, Nwachukwu Okpaloka, both announced their resignations over the weekend.
They maintained that their decision to dump the governor was long overdue. The duo, who were devoted supporters of Governor Obiano’s camp till last week Friday, were said to have joined the campaign train of the governing APGA’s candidate in the state, Umeoji.
In an interview with a news reporter in Abuja, Ekwenugo praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for refusing to cave in to purported pressure to dismiss Umeoji on Friday.
He characterized Umeoji’s election as the party’s presidential candidate on November 6th as a big political win for the people of Anambra State.
