Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, has commented on the situation involving former Governor Yahaya Bello’s resistance to arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissioner (EFCC).
In a video recently shared on YouTube by Channels TV, Falana highlighted a similar incident involving former Governor Rochas Okorocha, where the EFCC took decisive action in line with the law. He said when Okorocha resisted arrest, the EFCC forcefully entered his residence, adhering to the provisions of the administration of criminal justice. He said they apprehended him and brought him before the court for trial. Falana expressed confidence that the same legal process would be followed in Yahaya Bello’s case. He emphasized that once EFCC is directed by the Federal High Court to bring Bello to court, they are bound to comply with the court order. He said unless the court order is overturned by the Federal High Court or a higher court, it must be obeyed.
In Falana’s words: “When former Governor Okorocha resisted arrest, EFCC broke into his house, in line with the provisions of the administration of criminal justice, and took him out and arraigned him in court. I am very confident that in this case, once the EFCC has been directed by the Federal high court to bring Yahaya Bello to court, that order unless it is vacated by a Federal High Court or the court of appeal, the order will have to be obeyed”.
