2027 Election: Ganduje Declares No Vacancy in Aso Rock

As the 2027 presidential race gradually begins to take shape, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made its position clear, declaring there’s no room for a new occupant in the nation’s highest office.

According to a report aired by Africa Independent Television (AIT) on Sunday, May 18, the APC’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, made this bold pronouncement during the second APC North-West stakeholders’ meeting held in Kaduna on Saturday, May 17.

At the gathering, attended by prominent party leaders including governors from the region, federal lawmakers, ministers, and other stakeholders, Ganduje reaffirmed the party’s unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He stated emphatically that “there is no vacancy in Aso Rock”, signaling the party’s intent to back Tinubu for a second term.

The declaration arrives amid ongoing efforts by opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to build momentum ahead of the next general election. Political analysts have suggested a possible coalition among opposition parties could be in the works as they position themselves to challenge the ruling party.

As noted by Daily Trust, Ganduje highlighted the APC’s commitment to sustaining the progress already made under Tinubu’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of unity and loyalty within the party as they prepare for the upcoming election cycle.

The meeting also served as a forum to evaluate the Tinubu administration’s achievements since assuming office in May 2023 and to set fresh strategies for the future.

Adding his voice, the host governor, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, praised Tinubu’s leadership during what he described as one of the most testing periods in Nigeria’s history. Quoted by The Nation, Sani remarked: “President Tinubu took charge at a very difficult time in our nation’s history. Yet, he has demonstrated uncommon courage by implementing bold reforms that are beginning to yield results.”

Sani, who also holds the role of coordinating governor for the APC in the north-west, described the region as the “heartbeat of the APC” and credited the president’s decisive actions for the notable improvements being recorded across the zone.
