2027: ‘The Future of Nigeria Is in Peter Obi, Other Candidates Are Fake’ — PDP’s Sowunmi

As political conversations around the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has openly declared his support for Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as the only authentic contender.

According to Naturenex, Sowunmi voiced his opinion during a talk show in Abuja on Friday. The event, organised by members of the Obidient Movement with support from the Cyrus Group and the Free Nigeria Foundation, was part of activities to mark this year’s May Day celebration.

Despite being a loyal PDP member, Sowunmi stated that he believes Nigeria’s future lies in Obi’s leadership. He noted that while others are merely positioning themselves for opportunities they are not prepared for, Obi stands out for his commitment to finding practical solutions to the nation’s problems.

“You know, I am of the PDP, but the future of Nigeria is in Peter Obi. He is the only genuine candidate; all others are fake,” Sowunmi declared.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the longstanding political pattern that alternates power between the North and Southwest while neglecting the Southeast, Sowunmi added, “I am very uncomfortable with the way we are passing the baton between the North and the Southwest, leaving out the crucial Igbo zone, even when Obi, who is the future, is available.”

Also present at the gathering was Senator Nenadi Usman, the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, who reiterated that the party belongs to Nigerian workers across every sector, from construction to healthcare, security, and beyond.

She stressed the LP’s commitment to labour welfare, highlighting five core areas the party prioritises: fair wages, labour rights, health and housing schemes, and the strict enforcement of labour laws.

Senator Usman further cautioned against governments boasting of achievements that fail to improve citizens’ lives. She stated, “Stay the course; don’t sell your birthright for tomorrow’s children.”

Meanwhile, Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), challenged young Nigerians and members of the Obidient Movement, accusing them of being too passive in the nation’s affairs. She warned, “You are too quiet, and we are going down in this country.”
