Renowned activist and outspoken advocate for good governance, Aisha Yesufu, has opened up about the circumstances that led her to support former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 elections.
Yesufu, a dedicated supporter of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, disclosed that her decision at the time was not rooted in her admiration for Buhari himself, but rather influenced by his running mate, Yemi Osinbajo.
Taking to her 𝕏 account on Monday, Yesufu shared her reflections, stating, “The reason I voted for APC in 2015 was because of Prof. Osinbajo. It still took me up to February before I finally came to terms with voting for Gen. Buhari, the same Gen. Buhari I had vowed never to support again after the 2011 riots.”
Despite initially being hopeful about Osinbajo’s involvement in government, Yesufu expressed her disappointment over the Vice President’s perceived lack of influence in office. She remarked, “A Vice President is worse than a spare tyre. It is the spare tyre left at home,” pointing to what she described as Osinbajo’s inability to make a significant impact under Buhari’s leadership.
In her post, Yesufu also weighed in on current political developments, voicing concerns over the growing attention surrounding former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. Drawing a historical parallel, she commented, “That’s how GEJ canonized Buhari,” implying that past political endorsements have had lasting consequences.
