Professor Charles Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, has criticized the wealthy people in the state for not investing enough in projects that benefit the community and the development of young people.
While speaking at an Anambra Youth Empowerment program that was covered by Channels TV, Governor Soludo shared a recent experience that raised his concerns. He said, “I attended a funeral in Anambra during the Yuletide season, and when we entered one of the tents, there were a lot of important people there.” Someone told me that he is a member of a club of 139 billionaires in Anambra, and I applauded and said, “This is wonderful.”
The governor, on the other hand, disputed these assertions of wealth and set the only standard for identifying billionaires in the state. He stated, “The only way we know that you are a billionaire in Anambra state is if you show us the roads that you have done, the schools you have done for Anambra state, the hospitals, or how many thousands of youths you have trained and empowered.”
He established a particular standard for rich people: “You are not a billionaire if you cannot demonstrate that you have trained and empowered 1,000 young people in Anambra.” The governor disregarded the simple monetary claims and stressed the importance of practical impact by saying, ‘Money is what money can do.’ “Anyone can claim to have one trillion or ten trillion, but that doesn’t mean anything.”
Soludo called on wealthy citizens of Anambra to rethink their priorities in his call to action. “At any given moment, how many cars will you be driving?” He stated that all of these things are vanities. “Let us follow in the footsteps of our ancestors and those who paved the way for us, and let us demonstrate that we are the kind of people who care about our communities.”
