ASUU Decides On Shutting Universities

Not up to a month after the Academic Staff Union of Staff Universities, ASUU suspended their 8 month strike, the union and the Federal Government are back on a warpath.

ASUU has already set up a meeting on Monday to decide whether they will go back to another strike or not.

Owning to the October cut of salary received by members of the union a week after suspending the strike, the meeting is to be held at the University of Abuja campus has concerning the issue of salary.

Remember that ASUU has on February 14, 2022 shut down both State and federal universities over the previously agreement that the government have not implemented.

Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment after what he called a failed negotiation dragged the striking lecturers before the National Industrial Court.

The Court has on September 21 asked ASUU to call of strike and resume immediately.

ASUU had before appealed to judgement but the Appeal Court asked the lectures to resume academic activities.

The strike was final suspended on October 14, 2022.

But earlier this week, the lectures were paid half salaries for October which lead to another between the FG and the Union

Members that spoke with News reporter said that nothing would stop the union from embarking on another strike if the earlier agreement is not meet and also for breaching the agreement.
