On Sunday, a police officer attached to the Ajah division killed a female lawyer, Omobolanle Reheem. It was reported that the deceased, Late Raheem, her sister, and four children were coming from an eatery in their car around 11am when the officer tried to stop them.
It was also reported that Late Raheem was trying to make a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge when the officer shot at her vehicle. The bullet was said to have hit the victim who was immediately rushed to a hospital where she was confirmed dead.
The report is based on eyewitness report as police is still carrying out investigations on the case.
However, speaking on the case on TVC News, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin noted that the case has been referred to the Lagos State’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for proper investigation, adding that he does not know much about the case currently, but promised to put it to public when investigations are fully conducted.
Speaking on what the police officer should not have done when the female lawyer, Omobolanle Reheem refused to stop on his order, Benjamin Hundeyin said that in that kind of situation, no police officer is expected to use his firearms, except if his life or another citizen’s life is in danger, and there is no other way to solve the problem.
He added that firearms are used as last resort, adding that it is the reason they have subjected the case for investigations to know what truly transpired.
