Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken over security inside and outside the Federal High Court in Abuja as the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, resumes today.
The Supreme Court’s ruling on December 15, 2023, mandated the continuation of Kanu’s trial on terrorism charges, following his abduction from Kenya to Nigeria and subsequent detention by the DSS since June 2021.
Initially discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal in October 2022, Kanu now faces a fresh legal battle after the Supreme Court’s decision.
Journalists, litigants, and court staff underwent thorough searches at multiple checkpoints before entering the court premises.
The heightened security measures underscore the significance and sensitivity of this trial as it unfolds.
