Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has met with his long-time political rival and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in a fresh bid to ease tensions between them.
Naturenex gathered that the private meeting, which quickly became a subject of intense political speculation, took place on Tuesday at Wike’s residence in Abuja.
According to information shared by Daily Post, the gathering wasn’t limited to just the two men. Fubara was reportedly accompanied by notable figures such as Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba.
Sources revealed that upon his arrival, Fubara headed straight to Wike’s living room — a place he’s said to be familiar with — and personally appealed to the Minister.
The primary aim of the meeting was to address the growing political friction between both leaders, a conflict that has intensified since Fubara took office in 2023.
An insider, who spoke to Daily Post under the condition of anonymity, confirmed the meeting took place but refrained from commenting on whether it would bring an end to the current political crisis in Rivers State. “There was a meeting, and I can confirm that,” the source stated, adding, “That I can’t confirm [about the state of emergency ending], but all I know is that there was a meeting.”
This latest development follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State amid rising unrest, including threats from Niger Delta militants targeting oil infrastructure.
