“Chief Culprit of This Anomaly”: Wike Points to Governor Behind PDP Crisis

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of being responsible for the lingering crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naturenex reports that Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has withdrawn from the party’s reconciliation efforts, blaming what he described as consistent acts of betrayal and disregard for agreements by certain party leaders. At the centre of his accusations is Governor Makinde, whom Wike branded the “architect of our problems.”

Wike’s decision to abandon the reconciliation process was made public on Sunday, May 25, 2025, in a statement cited by The Punch. He traced the party’s internal divisions back to the period following the 2023 general elections, lamenting what he called a breakdown of trust among the PDP’s top ranks.

“I made it clear to the Governor of Oyo State, HE, Seyi Makinde, that he was the architect of our problems, pointing out to him that non-adherence to agreements reached was the bane of the party, and that he was the chief culprit of this anomaly,” Wike declared.

According to him, the PDP’s G5 governors had initially agreed to put past disagreements aside during a private meeting in Lagos. That meeting was followed by a larger gathering at the Abuja residence of Senator Bukola Saraki, which included other notable figures such as Governors Bala Mohammed, Umaru Fintiri, and Makinde.

However, Wike claimed those resolutions were swiftly disregarded. Even before the Saraki-led reconciliation committee could begin its mediation, Wike alleged that Governor Makinde, in collaboration with Enugu State Governor Peter Mba, conspired to derail the process.

“To my chagrin, Seyi Makinde had connived with Peter Mba of Enugu State to orchestrate the summoning of the meeting of so-called South-East leaders to recommend that if Ude Okoye was not adopted as Secretary, they would pull out of the PDP,” Wike revealed.

Wike Moves to Seal PDP Secretariat

In a related development, Wike recently announced that the PDP national secretariat in Abuja would be among thousands of properties scheduled to be sealed from May 26, 2025, over unpaid ground rents. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) confirmed that no legal injunction was in place to stop the enforcement action, which targets 4,793 defaulting property owners.

The PDP, in response, condemned the move, labelling it an act of political suppression aimed at intimidating opposition voices. The party expressed concern that both its current and newly commissioned secretariats in the capital would be affected by the crackdown.
