‘Do Not Put Fire In My State’ – Governor Makinde Tells Wike

‘Do Not Put Fire In My State' - Governor Makinde Tells Wike

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has pleaded with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to refrain from igniting Oyo State.

Naturenex reports that Makinde made this remark in response to Wike’s recent declaration that he will ‘ignite conflict and spark a political turmoil by targeting any Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor advocating for the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, to assume control over the party’s operations in the state.

Wike threatened this at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt during the party’s state congress.

He said, “Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give back to somebody, I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states.

“When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see you take.”

The former governor of Rivers State, who singled out Bauchi governor, Bala Mohammed, promised sleepless nights to governors who leave their states to challenge him in Rivers State.

However, today during a gathering hosted by the Ijaw World Congress in Port Harcourt in honour of Wike, Makinde highlighted that the former governor has significantly contributed positively to his constituents and the state, which is the reason for the respect.

The Oyo State Governor said: “I came to Oyo to identify with my brother and the celebrant of today(Nyesome Wike). When I showed up in Rivers yesterday (Friday) I told him that I brought a peace offering because he had been boasting that he would put fire in some states. I told him to please, not set fire in Oyo State.

“Let me say on behalf of other governor colleagues and past governors here that you have done well for your people and since I came I have seen projects that were done during your eight years tenure as governor.
