DSS Arrest Sowore Upon His Return To Nigeria

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested human rights activist and convener of #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Naturenex gathered that Sowore was apprehended on Sunday as soon as he arrived in Nigeria.

His flight departed from Washington Dulles International Airport at 6:14 EDT and landed in Lagos at approximately 9:43 WAT.

On Thursday, 12 September 2024, a memo from the Department of State Services (DSS) ordering the arrest of Sowore upon his arrival in Nigeria was leaked.

Sowore later revealed on his official X account that he had been detained by the Nigerian Immigration Service and had his international passport confiscated.

He wrote: “I had just arrived in Nigeria from the USA at MMIA in Lagos; upon reaching Nigerian Immigration, my passport was seized, and they told me they had orders to detain me.

“This is not unexpected because I have always known that it is part of the broader clampdown by the fascist @officialAbat regime on dissent and their fear of the upcoming #FearlessINOctober revolt.

“In case this becomes another prolonged and protracted detention, I urge our citizens to ensure they ALL stop tyranny by all means acceptable and necessary, by engaging in the planned series of direct actions slated for 1 October and beyond.”

Fellow activist Deji Adeyanju confirmed Sowore’s arrest to DAILY POST on Sunday, stating, “SOWORE was arrested by the jobless and lawless Nigerian government for calling for an End to Bad Governance protest.”

Earlier, Sowore had disclosed on his verified Facebook account that Nigerian security forces were attempting to locate him in his hometown of Ondo State.

He suggested that there was an effort to falsely accuse him of fabricated charges.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Sowore said, “Yeah! All around in my home town, they’re tryin’ to track me down, yeah! They say they want to bring me in guilty.

“However Babylon must fall! #FearlessInOctober.

Similarly in a post on his X account on Thursday, Sowore said, “The current administration, led by Tinubu, has demonstrated an upgraded inability to effectively track and apprehend terrorism suspects, bandits, and kidnappers, while the @officialEFCC has yet to arrest former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

“Meanwhile, the lawless @OfficialDSSNG has upgraded my status and name on their “watchlist” for arrest upon arrival in Nigeria.”

“It is imperative to recognise that our country Nigeria requires salvation and our people need liberation, which will necessitate considerable effort. I intend to return home shortly, I mean very soon.
