The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor may not be reelected for a second term if he has the plan to remove fuel subsidies and solve foreign exchange challenges to reposition Nigeria’s economy.
El-Rufai said Nigeria needs a leader who will not care about his reelection and is ready to take painful but necessary decisions to reposition the economy.
El-Rufai made this known during a panel discussion at the launch of the World Bank Nigeria Development Update and Country Economic Memorandum in Abuja on Thursday, December 15, 2022.
The governor said the president who would reposition the economy must be ready to serve for one term if necessary.
He said, “I think that Nigeria’s next president must be willing to take very difficult, immediate, and urgent decisions that will make the country go through maybe three to five years of pain and reverse this trajectory.”
