The family of Bassey Daniel, a prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member from Akwa Ibom State, who was kidnapped in Zamfara State, is appealing to relevant stakeholders, including the state government, for assistance in rescuing him.

Daniel, from Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, is the only remaining victim still held by the kidnappers. Previously, in December 2023, a young graduate and the driver of the Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) were freed, while Daniel and a female victim remained captive.

On June 12, 2024, the kidnappers released the female victim, leaving Daniel as the last remaining hostage.

Daniels family member, Mr. Umoh, who spoke to Vanguard, yesterday, lamented: “Our hope was dashed when our son was not released along with the female victim last two weeks. We were told that two of them will be freed the same time, only the female was allowed to go.

“Now it is remaining only Solomon out the eight prospective NYSC members that were abducted last August. That young man is an only son of a poor widow.

“So, we are appealing to all the stakeholders, security agencies, the NYSC leadership, the media and Akwa Ibom State government, we need help to bring that young man back home to his mother. We are all worried about him, but all the same we are hopeful. This is all I can say for now.”
