Forget Coalitions – Catholic Priest Proposes 3 Powerful Ways to Save Nigeria’s 2027 Election

As Nigeria begins to inch closer to the 2027 general elections, conversations around possible political alignments, coalitions, and strategies have started dominating both physical and digital spaces.

However, a respected Nigerian Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, currently serving in The Gambia, has weighed in on the matter — offering three bold solutions he believes are far more effective than the endless talks of coalition movements that, in his words, “won’t yield any results.”

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu expressed concerns about the current political culture in Nigeria and the recurring issues that have continued to plague the nation’s electoral process.

When asked to suggest possible solutions for the 2027 elections, the outspoken priest listed three, each unique and thought-provoking.

1. Solution by Miracle

According to Fr. Ugwu, one possible solution would come through divine intervention — a miraculous transformation in the heart of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu himself.

He wrote: “This involves a miracle in which Tinubu will repent and is touched like how Saul was touched on his way to Damascus. He will turn around and convert the passion he used in getting to office in 2023 into ensuring the right thing is done in 2027.”

He further explained that in this miraculous scenario, President Tinubu would voluntarily step aside from contesting the 2027 elections and instead spearhead a genuine electoral reform process.

“This will mean that Tinubu will give up his desire to contest for the 2027 election. He will then champion electoral reform and make a serious commitment to ensure that the 2027 election is as transparent and technologically formulated as we see in the Western world. Electronic transmission of results in real-time will be made compulsory. The election will be the best because it is only a grandmaster in the business of rigging who will know how to block all the rigging avenues among upcoming riggers.”

2. Solution by Boycott

Fr. Ugwu’s second solution involves a radical civic action — a nationwide election boycott by the Nigerian people.

“This is for all Nigerians to boycott the 2027 elections. Let nobody come out to vote. A very simple yet powerful means. I know that they will still pay some stupid people to thumbprint and announce a number, but it is better that way than wasting your time voting and getting another thing announced.”

The priest believes that a massive boycott would send a strong message of civil resistance, undermining the credibility of any rigged election outcome.

3. Solution by Electoral Reform

His third and perhaps most practical recommendation revolves around prioritizing electoral reforms before any talks of coalitions or presidential candidates begin.

“This involves the citizens ensuring that there is an electoral reform before they even start talking about coalition or party or voting. INEC must be totally overhauled. Some basic things like electronic transmission of results are made compulsory. All the loopholes in the last election that was used to rig, must be covered. Unfortunately, instead of the youth focusing on this, we are here fighting about who should be the president or VP in our imaginary coalition theory.”
