Human Rights Lawyer, Dr Ayo Sogunro Replies PDP Members Who Said Obi Is Politicizing Church Services

Peter Obi’s recent appearance in various Church services and programs in Nigeria has become a matter of concern to many people, especially the supporters and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party. They have faulted Obi’s recent appearance at different Churches, saying he is politicizing it and using it as an avenue for his campaign.

One of those who have criticised Peter Obi’s appearance at different Churches recently is a member of the People’s Democratic Party, Shina Balogun.

In a tweet, Shina Balogun yesterday said he joined LFCI (Winners Chapel) when it was located at Raji Oba Street, Iyana Ipaja in 1997.

He noted that ever since then, he has never seen the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi attend any of their services until 2022 Shiloh. According to him, Peter Obi attended Shiloh 2022 because of politics, implying that Peter Obi is politicizing Church services and using it as an avenue for his presidential campaign.

He added that their God is not a God of confusion.

While responding to Shina Balogun’s tweet, human rights lawyer, Dr. Ayo Sogunro said he does not understand tweets like that. He asked to know if Peter Obi was supposed to be attending all the church services in Nigeria when he was not campaigning for president? He also asked if there is a normal person who does that.

Dr. Ayo Sogunro also asked to know if there is any law that says Peter Obi must do something that he did not comply with?

He likened the tweet to saying that “he has lived in Lagos State for 20 years, but has not seen Peter Obi come to talk to people in his street until last week, just because of politics.”

Dr. Ayo Sogunro explained that yes, Peter Obi is attending church services because of politics, and because he is running for office. He however asked to know if Shina Balogun does not understand the meaning of campaign.
