If Everybody Loves Me, There Is Problem, There Are People Who Hate Me Because I’m Peter – Peter Obi
In a recent viral video shared on the official X account of NEWS CENTRAL TV, the former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, has stated that he is not comfortable when everyone likes him, asserting that he believes in having enemies and that it is his job to convince them.
The comments from Obi came after he was asked about the federal government’s prosecution of the #EndBadGovernance protesters. The former governor emphasized that in a democracy, people have the right to say no, and he believes that if everyone loves him, there is a problem.
“I have said it that if I am managing a facility and everybody loves me, I will resign. This me, wherever I am, I believe that I have enemies and my job is to convince them. If everybody loves me then, there is a problem. There are people who hate me because I’m just Peter, they don’t even need to give me any reason so, it is my job to convince them,” Obi stated.
By embracing the idea of having detractors, Obi appears to be positioning himself as a leader who is willing to take on tough challenges and make unpopular decisions when necessary, rather than simply pandering to popular opinion.
The former governor’s comments also touch on the right of citizens to voice their dissent and opposition in a democratic society. By emphasizing that people have the right to say no, Obi seems to be defending the principles of free expression and the ability of citizens to hold their leaders accountable.
