Julius Abure Warns Peter Obi: “Don’t Provoke Me Into Revealing What I Know”

The internal conflict within the Labour Party (LP) has taken a new turn as the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, has publicly issued a cautionary statement directed at the 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a report shared by SYMFONI on Monday, May 12, 2025, Abure made it clear that he would not hesitate to disclose certain information about Obi if provoked, declaring, “Don’t provoke me into revealing what I know.”

This latest development is part of an ongoing power struggle within the Labour Party, where factions have continued to battle over leadership and control. Abure’s camp maintains that it holds the legitimate leadership of the party, while accusing Obi and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State of allegedly plotting to destabilize the party’s structure by setting up an unauthorized caretaker committee.

In response to the tensions, the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) issued a warning to both Obi and Governor Otti, demanding an end to what it described as anti-party activities. The NEC further threatened to impose disciplinary actions should they fail to comply.

Abure also took time to address misconceptions surrounding the recent Supreme Court ruling, clarifying that the verdict did not remove him from office as national chairman, but instead reaffirmed the legitimacy of his leadership and the current structure of the party.

The unresolved crisis is already raising concerns about the Labour Party’s future, especially with the 2027 general elections gradually approaching. Observers believe that if the infighting continues, it could significantly weaken the party’s chances at the polls.
