Kamala Harris Takes Double Action After Losing US Election To Donald Trump

Vice-president Kamala Harris has called Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States (US), to concede the 2024 election.

As reported by CNN on Wednesday evening, November 6, Harris congratulated Trump on his win.

A senior adviser to Harris said she talked about “the importance of a peaceful transfer of power” and “being a president for all Americans”.

Harris ran as the Democratic candidate for the White House after President Joe Biden left the race amid concerns about his advanced age following his disastrous debate with Trump in June.

As the vice president, she is expected to oversee the US Congress’ ceremonial certification of the just-concluded election.

Trump won a decisive victory – comfortably clearing the 270 electoral college votes needed to clinch the presidency.

US election: Harris gives speech

Meanwhile, Harris gave her concession speech, formally ending her campaign and bowing out of the presidential race, CBS News noted.

She said:

“Hear me when I say: The light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”

Harris – who smiled and waved as she entered the stage – acknowledged her supporters were feeling a “range of emotions”.

She thanked President Biden for his support – as well as her running mate Tim Walz.
