Mohbad: Group Writes President Tinubu, Alleges Murder Cover-Up

The Break The Silence Foundation has formally reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of popular Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, following treatment administered by a nurse, who was subsequently taken into custody. In response, the Nigeria Police Force promised to launch a thorough investigation into the events leading to the young musician’s untimely death.

Led by Nollywood actor and human rights activist Yomi Fabiyi, Break The Silence Foundation insists Mohbad was a victim of murder, alleging that certain individuals are working to suppress the truth.

The foundation, through a letter addressed to President Tinubu and dated Friday, April 11, raised concerns about the alleged concealment of vital evidence and potential political interference in the case. According to Vanguard, the group claims that video footage, believed to prove foul play, has been intentionally disregarded by law enforcement authorities since December 2024.

Fabiyi, acting as the foundation’s convener, maintained that this evidence includes both a murder confession and an eyewitness account from Adura, Mohbad’s younger brother, shared on social media platform TikTok. He accused the police of acting on “orders from above” to conceal the videos and shield those suspected of involvement in the tragic incident.

The letter urged President Tinubu to personally wade into the matter, emphasizing the president’s longstanding rapport with Nigeria’s creative community. In closing, Fabiyi made a passionate call for justice, declaring:
“The youths are observing, the student union is expectant, the industry is waiting, and the world is watching.”

Since Mohbad’s death, controversies have plagued his family, ranging from disputes over the paternity of his child, Liam, to conflicts regarding his estate and burial site.

The artist, who had previously been signed to Marlian Music, died under questionable circumstances, sparking widespread accusations against his former label boss Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, his childhood friend Prime Boy, and his ex-manager. While the police arrested those individuals for alleged bullying and harassment, they were later granted bail in November 2023.

On February 26, 2024, the Yaba Magistrate Court ruled out any direct connection between these parties and Mohbad’s demise. Nonetheless, the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ordered the prosecution of the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, alongside an associate, Ayobami Sadiq, in relation to the case.
