Berbers are the natives people of the Maghreb region, North Africa, (Algeria, Tunisia, Canary Islands, Libya, Mali, Niger, and Mauritania Egypt). Moor’ was the name that Europeans had used to describe a variety of North African groups since Roman times before the Arabs invaded their land in the 7th century and converted them into Muslim religion and Arabized them and programmed them to think that they are Arabs till this day. As a racial group, they are found mostly in North Africa while most Arabs live in the Arabian Peninsula. Berbers and Arabs also differ in their appearance. Many Berbers have European features like red or blonde hair. In addition, some might have blue or green eyes whilst have brown skin, brown or black eyes, and black hair. The Romans called their region, North Africa, Barbary which means the land of barbarians. Some Berbers think that the name Berber is derogatory and they prefer to be called Amazighs or Imazighen.

Half of the Moroccan population speaks Berber, They speak various Amazigh languages belonging to the Afro-Asiatic family related to ancient Egyptian with an alphabet that bears no resemblance to Arabic
