My Priest Called Me That The Mobs Said They Were Coming To Kill Us Inside The Parish – Mathew Kukah
The Bishop Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah has recounted the case of Deborah who was killed in Sokoto about a few years ago. He described the incident as a distressing one where he was informed of a violent mob threatening to kill the people inside the parish. The mob’s intentions were explicitly aimed at causing harm and destruction within the church premises.
He lamented that Deborah’s killing somehow incited a group of attackers to target their church and they intended to set it ablaze. He stated that after the mobs were resisted from burning the cathedral, they shifted their focus to a nearby pastoral center and attempted to vandalize it. He expressed concern on how the mob discovered the locations of these places and who might have leaked the information.
He said in an interview with Arise Tv, “In the case of Deborah sokoto do you know what happened? Deborah was a Christian that was killed and a human being, out our Cathedral and nothing to do with the case, but these children came to our cathedral and they wanted to burn it down. But we were just lucky that there were people in the cathedral.
My priest called me that they were shouting that they were coming to kill us inside the parish. We didn’t know who gave them the address, and how they knew. After they were repelled from the cathedral, they went around to a pastoral center that we had, but and he tried to destroy it.”
