The Kaduna State government has confirmed a suspected outbreak of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever, commonly known as Lassa Fever, at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
Governor Uba Sani has directed an immediate investigation into the situation, following the deaths of four individuals within the hospital premises.
Three other patients with similar symptoms are currently under care.
A surveillance team has been mobilized to assess the situation, with containment measures initiated.
The Kaduna State Ministry of Health and the hospital management are working diligently to contain the outbreak. Samples have been sent for confirmation to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control laboratory.
The Nigerian Army has responded by intensifying Infection Prevention Control measures in all military health care facilities in Kaduna. The hospital facility has been disinfected, and necessary precautions are being taken to prevent further spread.
