Nigerian Governor’s Aide Confirmed Dead, Husband Arrested

Shimite Winifred Bello, who served as a Trade and Export aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has tragically passed away. Her death, which reportedly occurred on Monday, is suspected to be the result of domestic violence.

Although the full circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, her passing was confirmed by Harrison Gwamnishu, a fellow aide to the governor and a known human rights advocate.

In a post shared on Facebook on Monday, April 21, Gwamnishu publicly mourned her loss.

Echoing the gravity of the situation, another activist, Victor Ojie, posted a cautionary message on social media: “Marriage is not by force oh. It’s better to lose your marriage than to lose your life oh.”

A separate Facebook user, Oge Okonkwo, revealed that Bello’s husband has been taken into police custody following the incident.

Adding to the chorus of grief and outrage, Tameta Sunday, who identified as an aide to the late Bello, alleged that she was killed by her husband. In an emotional tribute, Sunday wrote: “It’s very difficult to type RIP boss, knowing fully well an ugly soul called pastor with a gentle look as a husband cut all the positive plans we had together.”
