No amount of political calculations will make you win 2027 presidential election — Northerner warns Tinubu

A political analyst, Imran Wakili, has urged President Bola Tinubu to tackle Nigeria’s escalating economic crisis, warning that failure to do so could lead to a significant electoral defeat in 2027.

Wakili, in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, expressed concern over the rapidly deteriorating economic conditions in the country.

He said: “Once more, I will say again and accept it or not, from where I stand and what I see if things keep going this way, even in the SW President Tinubu will lose handily in 2027 and a lot of Governors (especially northern governors) will lose with him and heaven will not fall”.

Wakili went on to speak on the severe impact of inflation;

He added: “Just one year, but everything in the market is quadrupling, and there is no plan in place to address the situation; a Nigerian who was considered an average Nigerian in 2023 is now a poor man with in just one year; people’s purchasing power is automatically divided by four; in other words, the value of your one million naira today is the same as N250,000 just one year ago.”

Wakili criticized the current administration’s lack of a clear strategy to combat these economic challenges. He warned that political calculations alone would not secure electoral victory in the face of widespread public discontent.

He said: “If we talk, you start all your political calculations, SW this, NC that, Northerners this, Yorubas that, Igbo this, wallahi. It will not help if everyone is collecting,” he stated.

Emphasizing the need for genuine performance over political maneuvering, Wakili added, “You can keep bragging about his political consciousness or whatever, but no amount of political calculations will make him win with this performance against a united, enraged, and hungry populace.”

He said: “The uncomfortable truth is that even with the power of incumbency, you still need a sizable portion of the population to back your candidacy in order to win an election, which he currently lacks. Let’s hope things change for the better, but It is either you perform or you serve a single term, Democracy is for the majority.”
