Okey Bakassi Entertain President In Imo, Begs Him To Stop Proposed Ban On ‘ponmo'(video)
In the wake of his recent visit to Imo State, a video of President Muhammadu Buhari being entertained by one of Nigeria’s finest comedians, Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule popularly known as Okey Bakassi has surfaced online.
Recall that before jetting out to London a few days ago, President Muhammadu Buhari attended the Police Officers Retreat, organized by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba Alkali in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
During the event, Okey Bakassi was introduced onto the stage to entertain guests with some dose of comedy. Needless to say, the veteran Imo State-born comedian did not disappoint as he entertained President Buhari and other dignitaries with one rib-cracking joke after another.
The highlight of his performance, however, was when the comedian urged Mr. President to reconsider the proposed ban on edible cowhide popularly known in local parlance as ‘ponmo’. According to Okey Bakassi, cowhide is an essential component in several local delicacies prepared in Imo State and several parts of the country.
“Mr. President, I don’t know the kind of meat that is served in the State House. But some of us like ponmo with stew or sauce. Now, if they ban ponmo, I don’t know how we will cope.
Mr. President, I don’t know if you have tried eating ‘peppered ponmo’ lately. It goes very well with a cold bottle of beer and that combination helps to relieve stress,” he said.
