A wave of shock and mourning has gripped the Eche Ezema community in Ibagwa Aka, the administrative hub of Igbo Eze South Local Government Area, Enugu State, after the tragic murder of four young siblings allegedly at the hands of a local clergyman.
The victims — Kamsiyochukwu Ezema (7), Ezinne Ezema (6), Ujunwa Ezema (5), and Chinedu Ezema (2) — were reportedly attacked and killed with a pestle by a pastor (name withheld) affiliated with a sabbath church in the area.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect has been apprehended and is being held at the Divisional Police Station in Ibagwa Aka.
A relative of the family, speaking on the incident, explained that the children had been left at home alone when the suspect allegedly scaled the fence and committed the brutal act. “The suspect used a pestle to kill them,” the source stated, adding that the reason behind the horrific crime remains unknown.
In deep grief, the children’s parents, Chinonso and Loveth Ezema — who were away at the time — have called for swift justice. “We want the police to thoroughly investigate this and ensure the culprit is brought to book,” the distraught father pleaded. He also pointed out that their home shares a boundary with the church where the accused pastor serves.
A police officer attached to the Ibagwa Aka Station, who confirmed the incident but requested anonymity, said the case had been formally documented and an investigation was already underway. “We urge the public to remain calm and allow a full investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragedy,” the officer appealed.
