Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, responded to questions about why Nigerians seemingly did not vote for him in the last general elections.
In an interview with Vanguard, Obi claimed that Nigerians did indeed vote for him, but the electoral process was manipulated by certain politicians in the country.
Obi stated that the elites are still manipulating the system to suit their whims and caprices, and that their modus operandi involves manipulating the system for their self-serving interests and personal gain.
He claimed that these elites are in every sector, not just politics, and extend their influence into the corporate world, religious institutions, and various other sectors.
Obi asserted, “But, you know as well as I do that they did. The problem is that the elites are still manipulating the system to suit their whims and caprices. But, it will get to a stage that their machinations will consume them.”
The ordinary Nigerian wants something good, but the elites are still manipulating the situation, and they are still in charge. How long they will continue to be in charge, I do not know. But, I do know that the votes of the people, and the people themselves are bigger than them.”
According to Obi, the elites’ influence extends beyond politics, reaching into the corporate world, religious institutions, and various sectors. He emphasized that the elites’ modus operandi involves manipulating the system to serve their self-serving interests, hindering the realization of the people’s desires for positive change.
