Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), based in Rivers State, has publicly appealed to the parents of a young girl reportedly abandoned at the entrance of his home, asking them to come and take their child.
Known for his generous charitable works and outreach programmes, Apostle Chinyere took to social media on Monday, May 12, to raise awareness about the incident. He posted a CCTV image showing the child at his gate, explaining that he could no longer take in more cases as his home was at capacity.
The cleric, who gained recognition for sponsoring underprivileged Nigerians to further their education abroad, notably sent two young men popularly known as the Happie Boys to Cyprus in August 2023 after they lost their jobs for dancing while on duty.
However, a few months into their stay, the duo stirred controversy when they accused the pastor of abandoning them overseas. In response, Apostle Chinyere arranged for their return to Nigeria and declared he would no longer sponsor individuals to study abroad. The incident worsened when, in August 2023, the Happie Boys went viral again with shocking claims, alleging the religious leader rap’d and impregnated a 14-year-old girl.
This latest incident comes not long after the Lagos State Government reportedly demolished a free school he built for orphans and widows’ children. Despite these setbacks, Apostle Chinyere, who was honoured in 2024 with the traditional title Ihie 1 of Ikwuorie autonomous community, continues to attract public attention through his acts of charity.
Sharing a screenshot from his home’s surveillance camera, he drew attention to the abandoned child and asked the parents to retrieve her.
He stated, “house of overflowing, and the prices of food has doubled.” The Apostle added that the police were on their way, as he could no longer accommodate additional cases. This marks the second time within a year that Apostle Chinyere has turned away an abandoned child at his residence, with a similar situation occurring in April 2024 for the same reason.
