President Bola Tinubu has made the decision not to attend the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Abidjan on Sunday, despite earlier indications that he would be present.
Instead, he has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead the Nigerian delegation to the highly anticipated match between the Super Eagles and the Elephants.
This development comes after CAF President Patrice Motsepe hinted at President Tinubu’s potential attendance during a press conference in Abidjan.
However, a statement from the State House confirmed the change in plans, with Vice President Shettima set to represent the President at the finals.
The Federal Government has called on all Nigerians to unite in support of the team and to create a wave of national pride that propels the Super Eagles to glory.
The match, which will take place at the Stade Alassane Ouattara, is set to rekindle memories of Nigeria’s previous victory against the host country, Cote d’Ivoire, in the group stage.
