Protest: Osun State Closes All Schools

The Osun State government has closed all schools and academic activities in the state as security measure as date for hunger protest draws near.

The announcement was contained in a memo from the state’s Ministry of Education, signed by permanent secretary, MK Jimoh, on Monday.

The memo directed parents, guardians and school owners to stop all academic activities for children in the state until third term.

Jimoh said the decision was important to ensure safety of the students, teachers and public infrastructures in the state from being target of hoodlums.

This is to inform the general public, particularly parents, guardians, and heads of both public and private schools in the state that due to the planned nationwide protest, all schools are directed to proceed on the third-term vacation from Wednesday, 31st July 2024,” the memo read.

Naija News reported that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Monday, canceled its weekly Community Development Service (CDS) exercise and monthly biometric verification for corps members due to the August planned protest.

NYSC management in the memo advised corps members not to put on their uniform but to go in mufti. NYSC also warned corps members from taking part in the planned hunger protest.

I wish to reiterate that the scheme promotes unity and will not tolerate any corps member participating in any form of protest that could lead to the breakdown of law and order,” the memo read in part.
