Reactions As MURIC Tells Muslims To Boycott Christian Universities

Published by admin on

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has reportedly told Muslims in Nigeria to boycott all the private universities owned and controlled by Christians. Giving reasons for this call, the Islamic rights advocacy group which is headed by Professor Ishaq Akintola expressed that these universities should be boycotted for not allowing the use of hijab among other things which the group tagged as anti-Islamic.

MURIC director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola cited that the group has received reports from many Muslim students studying in private universities owned by Christians concerning how they were pushed to engage in specific religious actions prohibited in Islam. Part of the statement which was made available to SaharaReporters reads:

“Muslim students are not allowed to practice their faith in those private universities. Worse still, they are not given any space where they can pray. Hijab is an anathema in such institutions.”

Professor Akintola then urged Muslims to avoid Christian private institutions “pending the time that the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) will sanitise them”.

This suggestion by the group has been trailed with wide criticisms from Nigerians reacting online. Check the screenshots below for people’s comments:
