Reactions Trail As Guinness Announces Plan To Exit Nigeria After 75 Years, Amid Inflation

Guinness has reportedly announced its plan to leave the country, after operating in the country for 75 good years, as a result of high level of inflation in the country. Guinness noted that it will sell its controlling shares to Singaporean conglomerate, Tolaram Group.

Guinness has been in the country since 1950. The company made this disclosure in a statement it released, disclosing that it will leave the country next year and hand over to a third party venture.

The brewery brand some months back disclosed that it recorded a staggering ₦61.9 billion loss between July 2023 and March 2024, just a few months after President Tinubu decided to float the country’s currency, the Naira.

Some other multinational companies that have left the country before now are GlaxoSmithKline, Microsoft, among others.

The decision of Guinness brewery to leave the country caused several Nigerians to react differently.
