Ambassador Okhidievbie Roy, a seasoned security expert, has offered candid insights into the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria, drawing from personal experiences in his military days.
In an exclusive interview with Silverbird Television, Roy reflected on the once-crucial role traditional rulers played in maintaining security within local communities. He expressed concern that many of these leaders have strayed from their core duties due to the lure of wealth and political influence.
Speaking from experience, Roy recalled witnessing instances where some monarchs compromised their positions for material gain. “I started to wonder how come the traditional rulers now sold their stool and used the money to buy leather chair until I was in the military, and I was able to serve in certain locations where I saw traditional rulers coming to the president to collect Ghana Must Go,” he revealed.
Roy referenced the historical context of such activities, adding, “You remember the story about people going to Abuja to collect Ghana-Must-Go? Then Lagos was the capital of the country. Now traditional rulers have been distracted from their core responsibilities.”
